Casting Call for Two New RIFC Affiliated Films

LTJ Films is casting for two new short films by award winning screenwriter Gene Doucette and directed by award winning screenwriter and director Jenn Dlugos. These films, "Print Error" and "Surviving Hector" will be shot in January and the Spring of 2008. Much of the rehearsal and preproduction for these films will be happening over the next two months.

The casting session for these films will be November 27th from 4:30pm to 8pm at The Artists’ Exchange, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI.

Please bring your headshot and résumé or a picture of yourself, prepare a two minute dramatic monologue, and be prepared to read from some provided material. This audition is open to both Union and Non-Union actors. These will be volunteer/SAG deferred projects. Please see the character descriptions for both films below and come knowing which role you are interested in.

Mish (Teenager 16 to 20){Must Actually be 18+}: Mish is a bubble-gum pop girl and the ultimate scream queen. Naive and easily scared, this character must be able to show the progression from calm to massively frightened.

Jenna (Teenager 16 to 20): Jenna is Mish’s best friend. Another bubble-gum pop girl. She is also very naive.

Billy (Teenage 16 to 20): A teenage boy who just likes messing with people. A good knowledge of computers.

Tom (Teenager 16 to 20): Billy’s buddy along for the ride.

Surviving Hector:

Arianna (Woman 25 to 35) This is a very challenging and difficult role. Arianna is a business woman by day and caring wife by night. She awakes to find Hector pointing a gun at her head. She is afraid but becomes smart and resourceful. She is a powerful woman and a dynamic character. Picture an Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry.

Hector (Male 25 to 45) This is a very challenging and difficult role. Hector is a poetic and disturbed hit man who takes far too much pleasure in his work. He loves being smarter than his victims and letting them know it before he kills them. He needs some information from Arianna and he is determined to get it. Picture John Malkovich’s style of acting.

Aloysius (Male 25 to 45) Arianna’s husband who spends a majority of the movie tied up and unconscious. He is concerned and confused when he awake.

RETURN OF "YOU BE THE JUDGE" NIGHTS:

Be a part of the selection process for the 2008 RIIFF!

Last year, over 2,400 films were submitted to the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF). The reputation of our festival continues to grow as filmmakers and audiences from around the world spread the word about RIIFF. It is the largest film festival in New England and one of only a handful worldwide that is a qualifying event for the Academy Awards ("Oscars"). "You Be The Judge" is a unique opportunity for you to help us select the best films for screening at RIIFF 2008. Throughout the year, RIIFF will be organizing special screenings and inviting you to be a festival judge for the night. Your comments will be recorded and used in helping us to determine which films make the cut. No experience necessary; just be prepared to watch an eclectic mix of shorts, documentaries, animations, local, and foreign films.

This month, we will have two locations where we can get an advance peak at new work that has been submitted to the Festival:

Student Film This Weekend

This comes to us from Tess Jones:

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday mainly, and it would be around the Norton, MA, area. I need one male and one female, ages 25-35,who are willing to kiss each other and get wet. A change of clothes should be brought with the actors, if they dont want to walk around in wet clothes afterwords. I also need the female to be okay with being covered in fake blood, and both actors to not have any fear of dogs. Ethnicity is irrelevant, the story involves a man killing the woman he loves and going crazy over it, and then killing himself in order to chase her in death. No pay, student film. Actors would be able to obtain a DVD copy of the film about a month after the shoot. Any help at all is wonderful! thank you so much -Tess

Auditions for Zombie Allegiance

This comes to us from Tony Nunes:

Auditons for Zombie Allegiance are going to be held Sunday December 2nd in the third floor auditorium of the Westerly Publlic Library in Westerly RI (see directions below). The auditions are open between 12:30-3:30 pm, please email us to confirm. If you cannot make the 12/02 auditions, we can try and arrange a seperate meeting time.

We are looking for women 38 years and under to fill 3 roles, and men 20 years and older to fill 5 roles.

Email me (solipsistmedia@yahoo.com) for more detailed charcter information, and so I can send you an early draft of the screenplay and/or sides for the auditions.

Zombie Allegiance is the first feature length film by Tony Nunes and Solipsist Media Group, an ambitious project with major distribution prospects. Zombie Allegiance is a zombie/slasher flick (the first ever of this combination) set in a post nuclear WWIII America. When most of the world is dead or turned zombie, and those still living are either ruthless vigilantes or hopeless leftovers...How do you survive? Add to the mix political psychosis, delusional genocide, and ritualistic cannibalism and you have a movie!

Please note we are not a S.A.G. film and are still working out our budget at this time. Where we stand there will be little to no pay for our actors until after production, once we get distribution in late 2008. This film will be a great opportunity and resume' builder, it is a unique film with a great crew behind it. We will begin filming in late February or mid-March and shoot primarily on weekends until May. Our goal upon completion is to submit to festivals throughout the world and seek direct to DVD distribution from a reputable company.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Thank You

"The Price of Sugar" Showing in Cambridge

The Price of Sugar
Directed by Bill Haney
Produced by Eric Grunebaum
Co-written and Edited by Peter Rhodes
Narrated by Paul Newman

NOVEMBER 9-15, 2007
Kendall Sq. Cinema, Cambridge

On the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic, tourists flock to pristine beaches, with little knowledge that a few miles away thousands of dispossessed Haitians are under armed guard on plantations harvesting sugarcane, most of which end up in US kitchens. Cutting cane by machete, they work 14 hour days, 7 days a week, frequently without access to decent housing, electricity, clean water, education, healthcare or adequate nutrition. The Price of Sugar follows a charismatic Spanish priest, Father Christopher Hartley, as he organizes some of this hemisphere's poorest people, challenging the powerful interests profiting from their work. This film raises key questions about where the products we consume originate, at what human cost they are produced and ultimately, where our responsibility lies.

Auditions to be Held for Zombie Allegiance in Late November

This comes to us from Tony Nunes, an RI filmmaker and RIFC member:

I will be holding auditions in late November for Zombie Allegiance, an independent horror film being produced in 2008.

If you have any questions, or are interested in scheduling a reading please reply to us at solipsistmedia@yahoo.com so that we may send you script pages, and set up a mutual time for your audition.

Thank You,

Tony Nunes

This comes to us from Nathan Quattrini:

As you all may know I am serious about becoming a filmmaker, and its time to go to extremes to chase that dream. I am starting a collection of normal sized aluminum cans (soda, beer, juice) to help fund buying equipment. Though it won`t buy a Red One camera or anything by any means, but every little bit helps take one step closer to the dream. So if you drink alot of canned beverages at home or in the workplace and would be willing to help me out, let me know. All I need is the cans to be rinsed, not crushed, and tossed in a trash bag that I can either pick up at scheduled intervals, or have tossed in my car at the RIFC meetings. Email me to work that out if interested and get your name in my credits as a special funding thanks.

I put together this short teaser for my first short film, but can`t actually edit it until I can afford an editing machine. Enjoy :)

Premiere of "Three Tears, A Prince and a Forest"

From Mark Fogarty:

I just wanted to spread the good word, my friend Kris Avedisian's Feature Film "Three, Tears a Prince and a Forest" is playing Tuesday, one night only at The Columbus theatre. I had a chance to watch the film on DVD and loved it (I watched it twice). It is a really unique and weirdly funny film about a troupe of puppeteers, the "Magic Buddies," that get a chance at the big time.

The film will play as a fundraiser to help Kris make his next film, which will be an RIFC production. He needs a good sized audience so if you can make it out there I highly suggest you go. It is a great way to support a local artist and see something you otherwise might not get to see.

Kris is a really talented filmmaker with a unique voice and there is a chance he will be a major filmmaker someday, so think of it as seeing "Slacker" or "Welcome To The Dollhouse" before anyone knew the names of Todd Solondz or Richard Linklater.

Check it out. It starts at 7:30 at The Columbus Theatre in Providence. Here is a trailer of the film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRDhlfg5rQ

I hope to see you there,
Mark Fogarty

RIIFF Debuts Short Short Story Film Festival

RI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL DEBUTS SHORT SHORT STORY FILM FESTIVAL One-Night Event To Feature Over Thirty Films That Tell A Story In Five Minutes Or Less.

A unique one-night event is coming this November 17th to Providence, Rhode Island. Co-presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) and MergingArts Productions, the first annual Short Short Story Film Festival will make its debut at the Perishable Theater at 95 Empire Street, in downtown Providence. The festival takes place at 8:00pm and admission is $10.00 at the door. This event is open to the public.

The one-night festival will feature films of five minutes or less in length, each of which tells a story. The festival will include more than thirty films culled from the more than two thousand films that were submitted to the 2007 RIIFF held this past August. Toni Pennacchia says this is a great way to give films a second chance.

This new festival will feature mostly films from the main RIIFF festival in August that people might have missed. Films from as far away as Australia and Europe will be shown, as well as films from a few New England filmmakers including Michael Bradys, The Collector, from Providence, RI.

The film festival will include a short after-party and awards ceremony. RIIFF has received national and international recognition and is a qualifying festival with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the Oscars).
