Get a Free Ticket to Disney's "Underdog"

This comes to us from the RIIFF:

We wanted to share this news with you since the film was shot in Rhode Island. This was reported in the Providence Journal this morning (7.27.07):

"Underdog," the Disney production that was filmed in Providence last summer, will have a special free screening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The live-action film, based on the long-running Saturday morning cartoon series which first went on the air in 1964, opens nationwide the next day.

City streets, Providence City Hall and the State House were among the many locations used for the film, which stars James Belushi. Interiors were filmed on sets built at the Cranston Street Armory, including a mockup of the State House dome. The State House rotunda was also used for a key scene in the movie.

Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, which brought the filmmakers to the capital city, said 1,000 tickets have been given to officials at Providence City Hall for distribution. The City of Providence and the Film Office are co- sponsoring the event. Feinberg said the State Police will also receive tickets for distribution to Boys and Girls Clubs in the state and that some key State House officials will also get tickets as a way of thanking them for putting up with the disruptions caused by filming in the building. Tickets also will be made available to local members of the film's cast and crew, which number about 300, plus their families.

TIME IS LIMITED SO ORDER YOUR FREE TICKETS TODAY Any remaining tickets are free to the public and may be reserved by calling the Film & TV Office Hotline at 222-6666. Callers will be asked to send an e-mail request for up to four tickets to the office by midnight Sunday. Tickets will be mailed Monday. Requests will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please visit the RI Film & TV Office Website.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival 2007 kicks off Aug. 7 and runs for six days screening nearly 300 films in venues across the state. RIIFF is dedicated to the creation of opportunities for artistic interaction and exchange among independent filmmakers, screenwriters, directors, producers, distributors, backers, and the film-going community. Now heading into its eleventh year, the Festival is produced by the Flickers Arts Collaborative, an organization with 25 years of experience presenting major artistic events as well as independent and foreign films to the public.

The Wild Colonial Bar--One of the Best in America!

This comes to us from Daniel Lee White:

Kudos & Congrats to The Wild Colonial, which has been selected by Esquire magazine as one of the best bars in America for 2007.

Not for Nothing, but the Colonial has previously been heralded in the Phoenix for offering "a thinking person's pint."

To celebrate the Esquire accolade, the Colonial is hosting an event Thursday night in which Red Sox tickets will be raffled off, to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. This kind of thing shows how the WC is not just a fine place to have a drink, but a community-minded institution that plays a positive role in Providence. (Disclosure: N4N is a charter member of the WC softball team, and yes, I went 3-for-3 last night, and yes, I'm hitting above .500, thank you very much.)

PAID GIG in D.C.!

This comes to us from David Goldenberg:

Anyone know a good, reliable videographer in the DC area available this weekend? Reply to David Goldenberg: dagoldenberg@cox.net

Does anyone in RIFC have a connection in DC? I may want to hire a videographer to attend a play (with all the permissions agreed, of course) and tape portions of it. the final performance of the play is this coming Sunday, July 22 at 3 PM. I would pay since that would be a lot cheaper and easier than my flying down to do it.

You can still take part! At this writing, there are still two spots left! The list of people who have volunteered to join teams is pretty long, so if you have been thinking of starting one, now is the time! Also, check out our write up by Michael Fink in Motif Magazine! Thanks Motif!

Wilder Reinvents "Reality"

Jason Wilder Evans, the Michigan born Rhode Island transplant, has become quite active in the Providence area of movie and music in the last 2.5 years. Like many RIlanders he's had the opportunity to work on several of the TV and Films that the State office has worked so hard to bring to the Ocean State.

If you get the opportunity, you can go to the Rhode Island Historical Society and check out the film WRENLAND (dir. by Jung Lee) or you can just purchase it on Jason's website: www.jasonwilderevans.

Many of our members worked on Jason's film "Reality to the Max" which can be found on IFILM.http://www.ifilm.com/video/2865739. "Reality" can also be purchased on his website: www.jasonwilderevans.com and on www.buyindies.com. Also - Jason just signed on co-starring with Ari Lehman (the first Jason in the Friday 13th Series) in "Split Milk".

As a goodbye to RI, Jason is having a blow-out at Cafe Zog FRIDAY, 13th of July. It is his last scheduled music performance in Rhode Island as a "Rhody". If you haven't had the chance to check Jason out, do so.

This is not an RIFC event.

These folks made it to Spielberg's On The Lot!

Congratulations - Director Jason Vescera and Actress Erin Webb (who has a role in the upcoming RIFC / Pinch Hit Production, Green Grass) debuts in Vescera's short film.
PLEASE GO VOTE NOW! http://www.thelot.com/films/42525

Log onto Steven Spielberg's FOX TV show On The Lot to view Erin's screen debut in the short film In The Yard & to vote for Jason's film.

A Note From Jason:
Hi everyone with RIFC. I had made this 3 minute short for the internetcontest of On the Lot. Please vote now! The rules for the contest were to write, shoot, and edit a 3 minute or less short, within 5 days. I shot it in wide screen, the color and resolution came out great, but the version I had uploaded for the deadline to Fox was not compressed properly- my human era.
I will post a better version after this week when the contest is over, but I need you to vote for the one on the on the lot website now!
THANK YOU!!

A Correction for Todd LeComte.........

We had the wrong link up before. Our apologies. For Todd's newest trailer for his film, "Bus Stop", please go to www.myspace.com/tslecomte.
