Please join Rhode Island native and renowned Director/Producer Michael Corrente and representatives from the Rhode Island Film & TV Office and the Providence Mayor's Dept. of Art, Culture and Tourism at 3PM on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument in Kennedy Plaza facing Providence City Hall, as Mr. Corrente announces plans for filming his long-awaited political biopic THE PRINCE OF PROVIDENCE.

The cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Adam Goldberg, Bradley Cooper, Ed Burns and Oliver Platt, who will portray former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci in the David Mamet adapted screenplay of Michael Stanton's 2003 book about one of America's longest-serving mayors. Robin Williams is currently in negotiations to join this talented group of actors.

"The passion I have for THE PRINCE OF PROVIDENCE is stronger then any film I've made to date. Through much scrutiny and speculation, I've spent six long years preparing for this picture. I have painstakingly taken the necessary time to make sure that all my ducks are in a row. This is my home state, and I have an obligation to ensure that the quality of the production matches the brilliance of the material. At the end of the day, and every day does end, nobody ever cares about how long it takes to make a movie; they only care if it's good", stated Mr. Corrente.

AHTSPOT'S OPEN CALL EVENT

On Monday June 23rd 2008 Ahtspot will be holding our 3rd Annual Ahtspot Open Call event, which is leading up to the Rhode Island Film Collaborative’s 48 Hour Film Project Providence. This year it will be hosted by local comedians Melissa Bowler and John Ring! This is an event where professional producers and directors can seek out talent for their projects, performers can see what other performers are doing, and 48 hour teams can cast and crew up for the big upcoming film project. The event will be held at Tazza Café, 250 Westminster St. in Providence, RI. Doors will open at 6pm and the show starts at promptly at 7pm. Local filmmakers, casting directors, theatre directors, and local talent are invited to attend. There is no charge for this event. (Ahtspot members who wish to perform, please read below to see how to pre-register so you won’t have to wait in line!)

For actors the 48 Hour Film Project is a great way to land a lead role and add more to your résumés and demo reels. The best part is the contest is open to both SAG and Non-Union, so no matter what your status, you can participate too!

Beginning at 7pm, performers will each have up to two minutes to perform a monologue, comedy routine, or other type of performance to impress the audience of filmmakers, casting agents, theatre directors and other local entertainers. The order will be decided on a first come first served basis (Ahtspot members have a chance to pre-register, see below for more details). If we cannot get to everyone on the list in time, some people may not be able to perform. If your name is called at the event and you do not come up, you are immediately moved to the back of the list, so make sure you are there and ready to go at 7pm.

Ahtspot members who wish to perform, you may pre-register online in the members’ section. Log in to the members’ section for details. Anyone who comes in line that day will be added after you. We are taking pre-registrations until June 20th 2008 at 11pm. Not a member yet, want to get on the list, sign up for Ahtspot.com now!

This is a huge event and not to be missed! Make sure to get a seat early and enjoy the show, then stick around after to network and mingle.

As an added bonus, Ahtspot will be holding a prelude to its Open Call event at the 3rd Annual CT Film Industry Mixer. If you’re in the southern CT area and want even more exposure, be sure to come by. This event is also being taped live!
Check out the details here: http://www.ahtspot.com/Events/EventsPages/0608/0621083rdAnnualFilmIndustryMixer.htm

So make sure to come by and check out one or both events. All are welcome!
