"Balls" screening tonight - RIFC Documentary Group Sept 12

 June 2012
Doc Group Meeting Thurs, Sept. 12

Just your friendly last minute reminder:

Thursday, Sept. 12th, the Doc group will host the first screening of "The Balls to Prove It." by Murray Scott. If you made it to a 48 screening, you saw a trailer for this film - it's online here: https://vimeo.com/42533036

Because there will be complimentary food and drink, we are asking people to please RSVP to this email or david.eliet@gmail.com .

From Murray: "The Balls To Prove It is a documentary film about baseball fanatic who catches piles of foul balls. Eric Sutcliffe's deep and unquenchable life-long love of baseball and his uncanny ability to predict where a foul ball will be hit garnered him a haul of 219 balls last year while attending a mere 32 games at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket Rhode Island!

This short film is a rare treat for anyone passionate about out national pastime, and even baseball haters will enjoy this film of about a real guy with an simple passion taken to a level of analysis and fandom unseen before!"

Napoleon X will have a film to show as well.  Nice to have a full evening after a long hiatus.

David

---------------

Also, we're still planning a more ambitious meeting with presentations on how to use the new film tax credits. This is scheduled for September 27th at 7pm, with the location to be announced.

The minimum threshold was recently reduced to $100,000 - something RIFC members have long been been in favor of. We're planning to have Gary Glassman of Providence Pictures, Edward Mazze, Distinguished Professor of Economics at URI, Producer Andrew Lund, Steven Feinberg of the RI Film and TV Office, and film accountant Kimberly Wyman, CPA of Carl Weinberg & Co. The hope is to conduct a brief panel and then generate an informal conversation about how to approach these credits from a filmmakers point of view.
