Death-A Love Story screening this week, Casting, RIFC Documentary group meets this week, class running

 January 23, 2012
"Death- A Love Story" screening this week at Cable Car!

 death

Death: A Love Story is a compelling, first person documentary that confronts our fears of the greatest unknown and reveals the moment-to-moment grace possible at the end of a life.

An Official Documentary Selection at the Sundance Film Festival, this film follows the journey of husband and wife filmmakers Mel Howard and Michelle Le Brun as they confront Mel's unexpected terminal illness and ultimate death.

Contrasted against Mel and Michelle's search for dignity...MORE and grace, is the world of medicine, both traditional and alternative, which they must first traverse. In the end, Mel shares his death and discoveries about life with extraordinary clarity and wisdom. Profoundly uplifting and thought-provoking, Death: A Love Story portrays the rite of passage we all must one day face. In all of its irony, power and poetry, it shows us that life's greatest gifts can sometimes be found in the seed of death.

RIFC education classes announced, RIFC awarded RISCA grant, Discussion group

 January 6, 2012
RIFC awarded grant by RISCA!

RISCARhode Island State Council for the Arts announced its second round of grant awards for the 2010-2011 season, supporting projects by individual artists, arts organizations, schools and educational organizations in communities throughout the state.  Out of 238 applications, 76 were awarded includining a $2200 grant for the RIFC for our spring "Rock & Reel" film/music program.

In announcing the awards, State Arts Council director Randall Rosenbaum said that it was important to remember, particularly in challenging times, that the arts employ people and help communities. "The arts are an important part of the Rhode Island economy", he said. "Each grant we award helps to employ an artist, even for a short period of time, and those artists - our neighbors - help support local businesses by paying rent, buying groceries, and by providing cultural programs in our communities. Our applicants tell us that over 117,000 people will benefit from the projects we just supported, and those people in turn will contribute in their own way to our state's economic recovery."

We thank RISCA for all their work in securing arts funding for the State of RI.  The RIFC would not be able to provide and offer to the independant filmamking community all of our programs, classes, groups, events and member benefits without funding from RISCA.
