Rock & Reel

Rock & Reel is a grassroots art project starting in Providence, RI, that pairs independent filmmakers with local bands and challenges them to make a narrative music video in just nine days.

Filmmakers gather teams, locations, actors, props, etc. Musicians pick appropriate tracks of music. On October 4th they get randomly matched, and the filmmakers are off to make narrative shorts inspired by the music.

At the end, all completed work is shown on the big screen at CinemaWorld in Lincoln, where audience members and a panel of judges vote on their favorites. The winning pairs will have a special screening of their video before the winning bands perform live in a "Best of" concert at The Met Cafe in Pawtucket.

Opportunties with Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County is starting a new filming program and are looking for a reliable person trained in the field to run it.   The program may run for 8 or 12 weeks.  Direct inquiries to  Sherilyn.Brown@arts.ri.gov.

Also, this October, BGC of Providence is launching a video/film making club for elementary students as part of its new program, "Fox Point Connects Youth". If you are interested in working with them on the club, please contact mmorgan@bgcprov.org.

Short Film Showcase

Created by Bryan Casey and hosted by Mike Messier, the Short Film Showcase welcomes films of any genre, from throughout New England.

For those interested in screening their film or appearing as a guest on the show please go to their site for more information.

"We are always looking for films to screen as well as guests looking to promote their work."

You can contact Bryan at www.bcfilms.net
United Theatre Restoration

From 1926 through 1986 the United Theatre was downtown Westerly's "go to" destination for area film lovers.

Restoration is set to begin in 2013, turning the space into a complex that will bring first run and revival cinema back to Westerly as well as the best original live music, live events and community arts programs the region has to offer.

In order to meet our vision of community involvement we ask that you please fill out a short survey to help us understand what your hopes and expectations for the theatre.

Official Call for Entries

The next RIFC Official Production will create several shorts all set in an elevator. Scripts will be assessed based on fun, quality and feasibility of production . While scripts of all length will be considered, we prefer scripts in the 5-6 page area.

Submit a script or address questions to productions@rifcfilms.com.

If you can't write without a deadline - just pretend it's soon and stop procrastinating.

Note: this is not a glass elevator, and does not have a hatch in the roof. Other than that, you can add an elevator operator, emergency phone, and decide how many floors in the building - these can all be changed to match a script.

"Balls" screening tonight - RIFC Documentary Group Sept 12

 June 2012
Doc Group Meeting Thurs, Sept. 12

Just your friendly last minute reminder:

Thursday, Sept. 12th, the Doc group will host the first screening of "The Balls to Prove It." by Murray Scott. If you made it to a 48 screening, you saw a trailer for this film - it's online here: https://vimeo.com/42533036

Because there will be complimentary food and drink, we are asking people to please RSVP to this email or david.eliet@gmail.com .

From Murray: "The Balls To Prove It is a documentary film about baseball fanatic who catches piles of foul balls. Eric Sutcliffe's deep and unquenchable life-long love of baseball and his uncanny ability to predict where a foul ball will be hit garnered him a haul of 219 balls last year while attending a mere 32 games at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket Rhode Island!

This short film is a rare treat for anyone passionate about out national pastime, and even baseball haters will enjoy this film of about a real guy with an simple passion taken to a level of analysis and fandom unseen before!"

Napoleon X will have a film to show as well.  Nice to have a full evening after a long hiatus.

David

---------------

Also, we're still planning a more ambitious meeting with presentations on how to use the new film tax credits. This is scheduled for September 27th at 7pm, with the location to be announced.

The minimum threshold was recently reduced to $100,000 - something RIFC members have long been been in favor of. We're planning to have Gary Glassman of Providence Pictures, Edward Mazze, Distinguished Professor of Economics at URI, Producer Andrew Lund, Steven Feinberg of the RI Film and TV Office, and film accountant Kimberly Wyman, CPA of Carl Weinberg & Co. The hope is to conduct a brief panel and then generate an informal conversation about how to approach these credits from a filmmakers point of view.

Thanks, and hope you can make the next meeting!

Hallmark Hall of Fame's "The Makeover" is shooting from September through October in Boston, MA and it's missing something.  That something is your genuine New England face.

1. current candid photo
2. headshot (if you have one)
3. height
4. age (if you are a minor)

Send your info to: hallmark.ldi@gmail.com
