CHILDREN OF THE DNIPRO

From: Playwright and Screenwriter David Eliet
:david.eliet@gmail.com
On June 4th, I will open my new show, CHILDREN OF THE DNIPRO, which was written when I was on an Edward Albee Playwriting Fellowship last summer. I am hoping you will be able to attend.

This particular project is very important to me personally. As most of you know, I have spent almost two years in Ukraine. The project evolved out of life stories I heard when I was there and my own growing understanding of what had happened in the 1930's and the effect those events had on modern day Ukrainian culture and politics. (The Dnipro by the way is the main riverthat flows from North to South in Ukraine.)

I have assembled a wonderful group of actors Peter Deffet, Luis Astudillo, Patricia Thomas, Andrew Stigler, Jim Sullivan and Kristina Drager.

The show will be presented at The Perishable Theatre, 95 Empire Street, in Providence, Thursdays though Sundays for two weeks June 4 to June 14. TIckets are $15.00 and $10 for students and seniors. Curtain for all performances is 8:00 p.m. You can e-mail your reservation requests directly to me, or use the phone number .

RISD SCREENWRITING CLASS

Screenwriting
Semester: Summer 2009
Date(s); Tuesdays 06/16/09 - 07/21/09
Time: 6:30-9:30pm
Sessions: 6

Movies are built on the foundation of a screenplay shaped by a screenwriter. This course provides students with an overview of the process of writing for the screen by focusing on the fundamentals -- from character development and dialogue to the structural expectations particular to film.

While screenwriting skills are essential to any aspiring filmmaker, the course also entertains and informs the more casual film lover. Using handouts, writing exercises, thoughtful discussion and film clips, participants learn to mine their own experience and that of their peers for stories, and to recognize the contributions made by the cinema scribes who have paved the way.

In sum, students gain the experience that is the first step toward realizing the film -- be it an animation, music video or other form.

Tuition [Non Credit]: $285.00

Local filmmaker's work on Good Morning America

From Toni-Ann Baker:

Both have touched my heart forever. :-)A small portion of each video (along with some others) aired on Good Morning America MONDAY, May 4. The next meeting will be on the first Thursday of June, June 4th, at 7 pm.

The doc group is going to try something a little bit different this month. We’ll be meeting at the home of award winning filmmaker Michelle LeBrun and doing a light form of pot luck for snacks and drinks.
