This comes from Joey Perez
hello all, here is a sneak peak of the commercial i shot for the 94 hjy contest... 2 & 1/2 weeks -- concept to completion.www.94commercial.com
And this from crew officer Mark Leonard
I filmed a 15 second spot for 94WHJY, and we've made it into the top 10 finalists! Unfortunately, the radio station compressed the stuffing out of the video, so it looks very spotty and "artifact-y". In order to vote, you will need to register your email address with HJY (it takes 2 seconds!!) and then vote for VIDEO #2... please. It's the one that has a guy waking up and then getting slapped by an asian girl running by outside, with the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" at the end... don't ask... just watch and vote, and my counterparts and I will thank you.

"Whose is this Song?"

***APRIL 24th ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY, ONE OLD FERRY ROAD, BRISTOL (401) 253-1040
(70 mins) Directed by Adela Peeva, BULGARIA/BALKANS A song plays in a restaurant where the filmmaker, herself Bulgarian, is having dinner with a Greek, a Serb, a Turk and a Macedonian. They all know the words and sing along - in their own language. Whose song is it? The filmmaker is convinced it's a Bulgarian song. The incident sets her off on a humorous, offbeat journey through the Balkans to unearth the origins of the haunting melody. The song itself was transformed as it moved through the Balkans, from love song to military march to religious hymn to revolutionary anthem. Each group claims the song as its own, insisting that only they could have composed such a beautiful piece. Through the twists and turns of the filmmaker's quest, the Balkan Peninsula reveals its diversity and the wealth of its traditions.

Sunday April 29th 8-11 am at the Spectum8 Theatres. The Microsodes’ producers team up with their new crew at the Spectrum.
Cinematographers, writers, set-designers, costume designers, make-up artists, musicians and merchandisers meet to work out the production process for the Microsodes.

Why: To provide a new kind of film festival to the Capital Region, one that brings together professionals and enthusiasts to promote the art of film-making in the city of Albany, and take it to Hollywood.

The Edwood FilmFest is the Capital Region’s best-known independent film festival. Movie fans and film buffs travel from all about the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires and Southern Vermont to Albany to view the latest efforts by local and national short film producers. Since its inception in 2000, the festival has grown steadily, graduating from back rooms at local taverns to the 2005 & 2006 shows at WAMC’s Linda Norris Theatre. This year’s festival, takes place on September 28th and 29th at the Spectrum8 Movie Theatre, renown as a showcase for independent national and international films.

The festival this year has two distinct short film programs. The Short Film Contest will showcase films of 15 minutes or less.
The second program will feature 16 Microsodes - original 5 minute short films - produced from selected scripts submitted by the general public. Nearly the entire production of these selected scripts will come from the public’s participation as actors, set designers, make-up and costumers, musicians, merchandisers, cinematographers, and producers transforming a huge Spectrum 8 Theatre parking lot into a Hollywood style production studio back lot this summer.
All footage, scoring and editorial notes will be sent across the country to Hollywood where professional editors of such films as Analyze This, Polar Express, Apocalypto, Thank You For Smoking and Cast Away will do all of the post-production work to ready the microsodes for their world-premiers at the Spectrum 8 Theatre in September.

"Green Grass" Seeks Beater Vehicles

The producers of Green Grass are looking for an old beater truck and an old beater car to use in the filming of Green Grass. For the truck, preferably, we'd like the truck to have a back seat and passenger window that can be opened (or removed) for filming. For the old beater car, the uglier the better. They both must run, be able to be driven to Massachusetts for filming in June, and available the weekends of June 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Please send pictures to info@greengrassfilm.com. Thanks!

Green Grass crew opportunities:

BUDDY is a feature documentary about the often contradictory and always audacious public figure, Buddy Cianci, the former Mayor of Providence, RI. From his early promise prosecuting organized crime to his success overseeing Providence's "renaissance," the film tracks Cianci's entanglements with city council opposition, union skirmishes, personal scandals, and criminal indictments. The result is a fascinating study of American local politics and a surprising tale of a man who, in the words of one commentator, "has a city as his mistress." Narrated by James Woods

Midnight Chimes is Casting

Midnight Chimes is also looking to cast for this weekend. Please contact Kevin Anderton directly at bcsc2006@mindspring.com ...

Hey Guys. I've written my acceptance speech for winning challenge #69 for NBC's It's Your Show. Thanks again to everyone who voted. We're doing a reality show takeoff, which is fitting for the challenge we won and Celebrity Cheeters. The NBC people signaled out the Hot Tub speech as the most memorable, most viewed, and most highly rated of all so far in the contest. We're working to top it in both audaciousness and insanity. We are shooting it in Malden next Sunday night (April 8th) from 5pm to 9pmish (rehearse in the light and shoot at nightfall). I'm looking for male crew and male actors who would like to play crew members. Everyone will be on screen at some point. Some will be working cameras. It's non-union and volunteer only, since NBC owns it once it's submitted (really long and restrictive releases). The piece will get noticed and aired on NBC when the show debuts this Summer. If anyone is interested, please let me know. We need to get people in place ASAP.

Easter Drama

Hello all,

As some of you may know (and many may not) our church is producing an Easter Drama for one performance this Friday April 6th at 7:30pm. My wife, Alison, and I have been involved in its production as part of our Church Drama Group, /Fools for Christ.//*The Risen*/ is the story of Jesus' followers as they wrestle with the truth of their faith, days following the death of their Teacher and begin to divide over the report of an empty tomb. This will be the debut of what our church plans to make an annual event. Some of you may live a little distance away, but I thought I'd extend the invitation in case you'd be willing to make the trip.

Our church is at: *56 Tiogue Avenue, West Warwick, RI.*Hope to see you all there.

Sincerely,
Jason Carrier

Screenplay Animation Night

This is a non-RIFC Production.

MergingArts Productions/Spoiler Alert Radio presents:
Screenplay Animation Night - We bring your scripts to life!

We are combining original scripts/screenplays with a variety of voices in the community voices – from poetry slammers to local actors. Our first session will be at from 8:00PM-10:00PM (with mingle time at 7:30PM) this Thursday, April 5, 2007 at The Brooklyn Coffee & Teahouse.
209 Douglas Avenue, Providence401-575-2284http://www.brooklyncoffeeteahouse.com/

Anthony Demings, AKA Tony, of Brooklyn Coffee and Tea, provides us with our 1st screenplay to animate, “Children of the Asylum”.

It's about how a child becomes an orphan and is depicted in the 1940s. It is man becomes a father and a local woman becomes a mother and she is confronted on her reality to give up her child to an orphanage. It consists of Military officers, USO club girls, Local bully, Family father and mother, and daughters...

Depending on the number voices that show up for the event, we can easily double up on smaller parts as well. We hope for this to be a monthly event, followed another fun activity like eclectic karaoke, or viewing a short film or two, etc. This is a service to any screen/script writer and is a fun activity for those of us that like to hear ourselves talk J.

So…if you would like to have your screenplay “animated” by a variety of known and unknown folks, contact me, Toni P., at mergingarts@cox.net, spoileralert@cox.net or via friendly phone at 401-359-2576. If you are not local to the Providence, RI area and would still like to participate, we could also provide a recording of the event for you as well J.

If you are like me and like to just hear yourself talk, just show up this Thursday at The Brooklyn Coffee and Tea to read or at further screenplay animation nights. Hope to see your screenplays in the near future and hear your voices this Thursday night J!
