Volunteers Needed for the RIFC Black & White Party

We are still looking for additional volunteers for this event.

1. If you'd like to help decorate... we can't promise you'll get to use the lifts - but at the very least some glitter will enter your life. We'll be setting up Friday night December 3rd and Saturday afternoon before the event, and many hands make this fun work.

2. We're looking for volunteers at the event to handle the door, raffle tickets, coats, etc. Obviously, this would be in the evening on the 4th, and volunteers are allowed in free. We're expecting 2 hour-shifts!

3. Clean up. Nothing glamorous about this, but it's pretty quick and will feature pizza and great tunes! This happens Sunday afternoon, the 5th.

If any of that sounds good, please email Michelle at placegleason@rifcfilms.com and she'll get you on the list!

Rhode Island Web Series "Clean Livin'" Debuts

Independently Produced Rhode Island Web Series, Clean Livin’, Debuts Second Season.
The original web series CLEAN LIVIN’, turns the world of contract killing on its ear. This character driven, off-color, dark comedy series explores the lives of two hitmen, Bobby and Vinnie, as they “execute” some of the less glamorous aspects of their chosen profession.

Bobby Barcerelli (Joe Siriani) juggles being a small business owner, devoted family man and loving husband; all the while secretly working as one half of Rhode Island’s mostly deadly contract killing duo. On the other side of the coin is Vinnie Viviani (Greg Paul), a third generation quote unquote Family Man, who hasn’t quite gotten his life together; or out of his mothers’ basement for that matter.

It’s not all bullets, blood stains and body bags in the lives of Vinnie and Bobby. Clean Livin’ explores the everyday slice of life challenges and minor mysteries. Like; why does all good Polish food end in that long “iee” sound? Whether or not HDTV is really a scam? How do you make one roll of toilet paper last three months?

With the arrival of Clean Livin’ Season Two there's no time for laying about, with pressing work to be done, Vinnie and Bobby answer the call. Each in their own way of course…

Clean Livin’ Season Two consists of nine episodes, debuted on Nov. 1st , 2010 with new episodes being release every other week.

Clean Livin – The Call (Season Two Episode 1 ) - There's no time for laying about, with pressing work to be done Vinnie and Bobby answer the call. Each in their own way of course.
Clean Livin – Short and Stout (Season Two Episode 2) - And.. They're off! Vinnie and Bobby that is, as they race to get a handle on the "Tony" thing. It's looking to be a whole song and dance production to get this taken care of... But it sure beats babysitting.

New Clean Livin’ episodes (as well as Season One, Specials and the Clean Livin’ side series On Point) can all be viewed at the Clean Livin’ website: http://www.cleanlivinonline.com .

Clean Livin, created by Dave Borges and Eric Lebow of Endless Spectrum Studios is written, independently produced and filmed in Rhode Island using local talent and recourses.

I am looking for two young talented people:

This comes to us from Hilary Markoe:

1. A person who can create "content" for our clients (medical field) which will run on television screens in their waiting rooms. This would need to be somebody who could take client content, stills, clips from non-profit sources and other content and pull together a video that could loop. This would need to be somebody who could take art direction from us, and help us fill in the blanks to deliver something to the client that exceeds their expectations. We are looking for somebody who could work independently on a freelance basis.

2. The second person I am looking for is somebody who has a creative streak to produce cool Flash animations/videos. This person would need to have a good eye for detail, be able to work using our creative direction and who could deliver consistently great little films on flash. The content of these videos would vary -- we have a lot of clients in different areas who need this talent. We would want somebody who could create these on a freelance basis.

If you can refer somebody to me, great. If not, please let me know and I will keep searching.

Thank you!

"Complex World" Returns

20 years after its unprecedented three and one half month run there, the feature comedy Complex World (aka It's a Complex World) will return to the Cable Car Cinema in Providence on November 5th and 6th, for two shows a night. The film, which was shot at the original Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, stars Daniel von Bargen and the late Captain Lou Albano, and features performances by the comedy rock band The Young Adults, Roomful of Blues, NRBQ, and Stanley Matis, who has been called the world's most politically incorrect folksinger. Stanley will be performing a short set at the Cable Car following each screening. There will be an ongoing after-party each night at the Wild Colonial, a nearby club.

In addition the screenings, the producers are releasing a DVD containing both the theatrical version of the film and an earlier, rough cut, featuring a number of scenes not included in the final cut. The DVD will be available for purchase at the Cable Car and The Wild Colonial at a special premiere price of $15.

After its first Cable Car run Complex World, had a national theatrical release and a subsequent video release that was cut short by a law suit filed by the producers against the film's distributor. Since then the film has attracted a cult following through VHS copies available on line.
Proceeds from ticket and DVD sales will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Fund in memory of Carolyn Forest and to Advocates in Action, a self advocacy group for the developmentally disabled in memory of Charlie Thompson.

Showings of the film are 7pm and 9pm on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th at the Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main Street, Providence, RI.

BEHIND THE HEDGEROW DVD NOW ON SALE

This comes to us from G. Wayne Miller:

NEWPORT, R.I. –– Filmmakers G. Wayne Miller and David Bettencourt will celebrate the release of the DVD of their hit movie BEHIND THE HEDGEROW: Eileen Slocum and the Meaning of Newport Society with the first big-screen showing of the new director’s cut at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Jane Pickens Theater.

The feature-length documentary premiered in August to critical acclaim and packed audiences as the opening-night feature of the 2010 Rhode Island International Film Festival and went on to a four-week run at Pickens. The DVD version is a new and longer cut of the documentary, containing scenes that were not in the original movie.
“Following the premiere, we returned to the editing booth to see if we could improve the movie,” said Miller, “and we found that we could. Audiences wanted more about Bailey’s Beach and more about Eileen, especially her engagement to John Jacob Astor VI, ‘richest bachelor on the world,’ and this cut delivers that –– and more.”
The deluxe DVD also includes bonus footage of interviews with prominent members of Newport Society, including film favorites Elizabeth “Boop” Blake and Hugh D. “Yusha” Auchincloss III, stepbrother of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, among others. These interviews, available nowhere else, are a rich contribution to Newport history.
BEHIND THE HEDGEROW received four stars from The Providence Journal, and was called “shockingly refreshing and funny” by Newport Mercury, “daringly intimate” by Newport Patch, “fascinating” by WRNI 102.7 FM/NPR Morning Edition and “don’t miss” by Rhode Island Monthly.

Writer Miller and director Bettencourt will attend the Nov. 14 screening at Pickens along with associate producer Calvin Miller and answer questions afterwards. Members of the Slocum family may also attend. Ticket-buyers will also receive a copy of the DVD, all for the same price. Ticket information is available at www.janepickens.com The theater is located at 49 Touro Street, Newport, 02840.

The HEDGEROW director’s cut DVD with bonus footage is available now and may also be ordered online at http://www.behindthehedgerow.com/purchase.php

BEHIND THE HEDGEROW is the second title from Eagle Peak Media, the production company founded in 2008 by Miller and Bettencourt. ON THE LAKE, EPM’s first title, premiered in February 2009 and has been broadcast in PBS markets across America. It was nominated for an Emmy by the New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
