Membership Information For The RIIFF

This comes from the Rhode Island International Film Festival:

At the Rhode Island International Film Festival, we created a membership program that is not restricted to one week a year, or the month leading up to our event. We have been producing ongoing events outside of the main Festival in August for over 12years. From the monthly Third Tuesday Encore Films Series at the Courthouse Center for the Arts and the monthly Film Forums at Borders in Providence Place, to the Roving Eye Documentary Film Festival and the Vortex Sci-Fi and Fantasy Festival to the annual RI International Horror Film Festival, it has always been our intent to make your membership count. As with RIIFF, membership in CinemaRI is about discovery and the medium of film.

Members receive free and discounted tickets, priority entrance, advance ticket privileges, our monthly event eblast, advance notice of special programs and events and ongoing free screenings! This year, we'll be expanding our First Look programming and introducing an Animation and SFX Festival. As as member, you'll learn about what we are up to before anyone else. You'll also be able to participate in our popular "You Be the Judge Nights," which begin this November and help us select the films that will screen at RIIFF 2008.

For information on the different levels of Membership, and to become a Member now go to http://www.film-festival.org

Beanywood Contest For A New Name

This comes to us from Beanywood:

Before the new year is thrust upon us, Beanywood is going to pack in a bit more excitement for our members.

First, Beanywood is taking our filmmaking community to the next level. Given that we have been working with filmmakers and organizations well outside of Boston we are now going to change our name to convey that larger orientation.
We are no longer just Boston.

What name do you think reflects the goals of the New England Film Movement?
We are reaching out to you for your suggestions.
You will have until Midnight, December 7th to make your suggestions.
Starting December 8th we will have voting to choose the winner among the suggestions.

Guidelines:
The name has to represent the energy, upward movement and excitement of the region, film, or both. The name will need to be easy to write down when heard aloud
Of course the domain name will have to be available, in its .com form
Reply to this email with "BEANYWOOD'S NEW NAME" as the subject with your suggestions

We will be unveiling the new name at our networking event next Thursday December 13th at the Outpost Gallery, 8-11pm.

Outpost Gallery- 186 Hampshire St. Cambridge, MA 02134 8-10pm

Cover charge $8. Partial proceeds will go to benefit Ovarian Cancer research. We have very limited space for this event. We will be capping off at 50 people. This will fill up quickly. So come early if you are serious about getting in.

This "grassroots" community get-together is designed to further introduce IIFF to Connecticut's filmmakers, entrepreneurs and financiers as well as the public at large. Our goal for this and future gatherings is not only to provide unbiased insight & education about the business of film —and film financing in particular— but also to foster & inform productive relationships between attending professionals. The event features a powerful roster of highly topical speakers from the worlds of film and finance. We are delighted to again welcome real-world financiers among our guests for the evening.

OPEN CALL FOR RIIFF 2008 FILM SUBMISSIONS

Open Call for the 12th Annual RIIFF is ongoing with a Reduced rate for Early Entrants.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival for independent film and video, is calling for entries to its 12th Anniversary Festival. The Festival will take place August 5-10, 2008 in the capital city, Providence and throughout scenic Rhode Island. Of special note is that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected to recognize the Rhode Island International Film Festival as a qualifying festival for the Short Films category for the Annual Academy Awards. With more than 3,000 film festivals worldwide, only 61 have this recognition.

The Festival is accepting shorts as well as feature- length films and videos. Films and videos must have been produced after 2004. The Rhode Island International Film Festival is one of only five broadly focused, independent festivals in New England accepting works of any type (dramatic, documentary, experimental, animation), on any subject matter, and in any genre. Filmmakers may enter their films either in competition or out of competition. Films in competition will be judged by a jury of distinguished industry professionals, peers and film fans. Whether in or out of competition, all films will be eligible for Audience Fest Favorites awards (The Viola M. Marshall Awards).

The Festival offers an artistic exchange as well as opportunities for the global creative community that are not available in the established entertainment industry. It is designed to foster contact among film directors, producers, distributors, backers and audiences.
