 June 2012
48 Hour Film Project Coming Up.

46 teams have signed up, as of this writing! The pricing goes up this coming Tuesday, so if you'd like to enter a team, do it before then by going here:

If you're taking part, remember to save the dates of July 13-15 for shooting. The RIFC networking meeting on Tuesday, July 10th (7pm at the Wild Colonial Pub in Providence) could be a great place to find last minute teammates, too.
And whether you're taking part or just want to see the films, save July 17-19 for the screenings

Newport the Series

A story about The Newport Series was on Channel 10 yesterday: Here's the link, thanks to Ellen Becker-Gray: http://www2.turnto10.com/news/local/gene_around_town

Each episode of Tom Erb's innovative new series is created around one of artist William Heydt's paintings. For example, the episode with the women in the lingerie shop is an actual store in Newport that once served as a front for a safe house helping abused women. Moon Rising

Locally shot Wes Anderson film "Moonrise Kingdom", starring Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand continues to garner positive reviews and to reach new theaters, including some RI theaters this week.

Here are some local links on the subject:
Jeff DeBarros Memorial

Many of you may know RIFC member Jeff DeBarros from his involvement in local productions, the Writing, Acting and Documentary groups and many of our Networking meetings. It is with great sorrow that we recently received word of his passing. Jeff was an enthusiastic contributor to the local film community and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Documentary Group Thursday (tonight).

The RIFC documentary group will be screening "The Cutting Edge", a leading documentary on the art of editing, which could be great fun for you non-doc-filmmakers too.

You can learn more about it here:

We'll also be showing a short chapter from Norm Grant's documentary on the earliest mixed-race music clubs in Rhode Island, and enjoy discussion with fellow documentary filmmakers.

This event is at 7 pm, June 28th, at RIFC HQ, 175 Main St. Pawtucket.
Actors' Lab Every First and Fourth Tuesday.

Actors' get together for cold reads, auditioning practice and improv exercises. Many exercises are taped and replayed on the big screen.
This event is at 7 pm, at RIFC HQ, 175 Main St. Pawtucket. The next ones are July 3rd and July 24th.
Networking Event July 10

The second Tuesday of every month: We go around the room at 7:30 for quick introductions, followed by open announcement time. By 8:30, everyone's talking to whoever's projects or skill sets seemed helpful or interesting. It's a great venue to find last minute 48HFP team members!
The networking meeting takes place at the Wild Colonial Pub, 250 South Water, Providence, RI.
Upcoming Classes
We're currently open to suggestions for late Summer classes.
