After a few months off, the Documentary Group has some exciting meetings coming up.
This Thursday, we'll have a new segment in Norm Grant's documentary about RI's first inter-racial music club from days of yore, followed by the full-length documentary "The Cutting Edge," about the art and science of editing, brought in by Discussion Group coordinator Tommy Broadbent.
You can learn more about this doc here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428441
Davids Eliet and Goldenberg will facilitate.
Also, for August we're planning a more ambitious meeting with presentations on how to use the new film tax credits. They are apparently going to emerge from legislation with a lower minimum threshold - something RIFC members have been agitating for quite a bit over the years. We're planning to have Gary Glassman of Providence Pictures, Ed Mazze, Distinguished Professor of Economics at URI, and some other speakers generate an informal conversation about how to approach these credits from a makers point of view. If you'd like to suggest other speakers, let mike ryan know (you can email info@rifcfilms.com).
Thanks, and hope you can make it Thursday!
