48 Hour Film Project Newsletter

August 25, 2009
Editor: Kate Daley
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a first for the 48HFP. In Little Rock, Arkansas, Brad Shock proposed to his girlfriend Shelly McKay, through the film "Us" made by the MIT Creations Science Labs. At the end of the film, the character holds up a piece of paper which says "Marry Me?" When Brad was brought up on stage for the Q and A a friend (planted in the audience) asked if the proposal was for real. From the stage, Brad addressed Shelly, asking for her hand in marriage. She said yes. The audience erupted in cheers, and the happy couple embraced in the aisles. We wish the couple the best of luck.
US Tour Biggest Ever! Upcoming International Dates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have officially completed the US portion of the 48 Hour Film Project 2009 Tour! This year we had more cities and teams in the United States than ever before: 53 cities and over 2500 teams.

Here are some upcoming dates for our international 48 Hour Film Project weekends. Don't miss out on your chance to participate!

National Film Challenge - Make a Film in Your City!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The National Film Challenge, the 48 Hour Film Project's sister competition, is coming to your town, October 23rd through the 26th. Regardless of where you are, this is your opportunity to write, shoot, and edit a short film in three days. Just like in the 48 Hour Film Project, you'll receive a character, prop, line of dialogue, and a genre at 7pm local time, October 23rd. Then you'll have to mail the film in on October 26th.
After the contest the top films (determined by a national panel of judges) will be available for viewing (and voting!) on the Film Challenge website. The winning films will screen with the 48 Hour Film Project City Winners at the next Filmapalooza, the 48 Hour Film Project's end of year event at NAB Show in Las Vegas in April 2010. In addition there are cash prizes for the winning films!
Whether you are a 48HFP virgin, or a seasoned 48HFP pro, stop talking and start filming! For more information and to enter your team go to www.fllmchallenge.org. The National Film Challenge is brought to you by KDHX Community Media and sponsored by the 48 Hour Film Project.
Producer Needed for the Virtual World!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 48HFP is now looking for a producer for the Machinima 48 Hour Film Project. She or he will be responsible for getting the word out about the Machinima 48HFP; securing a way to screen the films; running the kickoff, dropoff, and screenings; and making sure the filmmakers have a good time.

Knowledge of virtual worlds and editing programs are essential, as are organizational, communication, and writing skills.
