State’s Film Tax Credits Draw Project, 150-200 Jobs to Connecticut

Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that NBC Universal is in negotiations with Connecticut on a project that is anticipated to result in a large television production studio at the Rich Forum Theater in Stamford, bringing approximately 150 to 200 jobs and an initial infrastructure investment in excess of $3 million to the state.

“This is terrific news for the state and for Stamford – it will bring much-needed jobs, revenue and excitement and we’re proud as a peacock to pull it off,” Governor Rell said. “This is good news at a time when we need good news, and my Administration will continue to do all it can to bring good, dependable jobs to the state.

“Not only are these jobs themselves important, many of these production facilities can become tourist attractions in their own right, becoming an additional economic development tool,” the Governor said. “Last month we held a grand opening for Blue Sky Studios’ new digital animation production facility in Greenwich. Now NBC Universal is in negotiations with our state, both in large part because Connecticut has made wise, targeted use of tax credits to make our state more attractive to this major industry. It is critical that Connecticut continues to enhance its reputation as a leader in the entertainment industry.”

Barry Wallach, President of NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution said, “As a company based in the Tri-State area, NBC Universal is enthusiastic about expanding our footprint in the region. The tax credit program fosters additional public/private investments in production infrastructure that Connecticut can use to help the state through the current economic crisis. We thank the Governor and the State of Connecticut for supporting the media and entertainment industry through this important tax-credit program.”
