The Rhode Island Film & Television Office is pleased to announce that Gary Glassman, Founder of Providence Pictures, won the prestigious Writer's Guild of America Award for his teleplay of "Secrets of the Parthenon" in the Documentary catagory. The show is part of the NOVA series and aired on PBS.

"I applaud the Writer's Guild of America for recognizing the outstanding work of Rhode Island's own Gary Glassman and his wonderful team at Providence Pictures. This example of excellence in film writing proves what is possible when the state supports and nutures our homegrown talent. "Secrets of the Parthenon" participated in the Motion Picture Tax Incentive program and, as a result, Gary Glassman's mastery is centerstage. He is is truly one of the Ocean State's shining stars.", said Steven Feinberg, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office.

Gary Glassman responded this morning, "It's a great honor for me and my colleagues at Providence Pictures to receive this recognition from the Writers Guild. I make these films about the ancient world because I hope the past can enlighten our future.

The secret of the Parthenon is that although it is constructed of marble, it is really made by what the ancient Athenians valued most -- science, art, and democracy. Just as those ideals inspired the building of the Parthenon, science, art, and democracy can be the tools with which we build a better future."

Providence Pictures is located in Providence, RI.

The Rhode Island Film & TV Office is a division of The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Please visit our website at www.film.ri.gov.
