CHANNEL 5 ANNOUNCES “BOSTON 7DAYPSA” COMPETITION

Contest challenges filmmakers to produce psa’s for local non-profits.
Registration deadline October 23rd for non-profits; October 30th for producers.

Boston – WCVB-TV Channel 5 invites filmmakers and not-for-profit organizations to participate in the “Boston 7DAYPSA” contest, a competition challenging production teams to produce broadcast-quality public service announcements for deserving local human service agencies. WCVB is the exclusive media sponsor of the event, which culminates with an awards and screening night on December 9th at the station’s Needham studios. The winning public service announcements will air on Channel 5.

“If you are a professional production team, an aspiring independent filmmaker or a media/marketing class using the competition as an assignment, we encourage participation to write, produce, shoot and edit the best public service announcement in just seven days,” said Maura Matarese, artistic director of Wednesday Morning Productions, the contest’s local host.

The competition begins November 4th. October 23rd is the registration deadline for non-profit agencies; October 30th is the deadline for production teams. Registration forms and additional information can be accessed at http://www.wednesdaymorningproductions.com/7-day-psa.html.

“In the end,” added WCVB’s Director of Public Affairs Karen Holmes Ward, “non-profits will benefit from the media attention they deserve but cannot afford, while filmmakers will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive media exposure on WCVB.”

Supporting partners include the Providers’ Council and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
