New Local Teen TV Show Premieres October 16th

The Rhode Island Film & Television Office, in conjunction with the Rhode Island Arts Learning Network, is pleased to announce a new television show on RI PBS made by and for Rhode Island teens. “Confessions of a Teenage Critic” premieres on RI PBS Channel 36 on Saturday, October 16th, at 7 PM. A pre-screening event to honor the teens and preview the show will be held at the Feinstein Providence Campus of the University of Rhode Island, 80 Washington Street, Providence, on Tuesday October 5th at 5:00 PM. The public is invited. Speakers will include Steven Feinberg, Director of Rhode Island’s Film & Television Office, and Dr. John McCray, Vice-Provost for Urban Programs at the Feinstein Providence campus.

The television program grew out of a digital storytelling project with artist and documentary filmmaker Lara Sebastian, who worked with teens on expressing what the arts mean to them personally. The teens wanted to expand the work to look at Rhode Island’s arts and cultural life, and what makes Rhode Island special to them. Students from the following schools were involved in creating digital stories and the content of “Confessions of a Teenage Critic:”

East Greenwich High School
Ponagansett High School
Tiverton High School
Woonsocket High School
Woonsocket Career & Technical Center

The MET School, Providence and Beacon Charter School, Woonsocket provided facilities, along with the Feinstien Providence campus of URI.

Rhode Island Arts Learning Network organizations involved in the project are: Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, VSA arts of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Alliance for Arts Education. The digital storytelling project was funded in part by the Dana Foundation and The Kennedy Center.

For more information on the show or the pre-screening event, please contact:
