Hello, this is Linda Gatta, executive producer of the RIFC's affiliated production of "Herbeast Comes to Life." Herbeast celebrated its world premiere at the Strasbourg International Film Festival in September, 2009, and was also an official selection of the Cairo International Film Festival in November of 2009, but as of yet, it has not played in the States. That's about to change!! Herbeast is having its Providence premiere this Thursday the 13th of May at 9pm at the Avon Cinema on Thayer Street.
This is the perfect opportunity for everyone who worked on or was in some way associated with this movie but who has yet to see a copy of it finished. The Avon is a Rhode Island institution and one of the best places to see independent cinema in all of the State. A chance to see their hard work pay off on the big screen should not be wasted, as, due to finances, any further screenings at such a premiere location would be highly doubtful. There will be DVD copies of the 90 minute movie available in the lobby for $10, as well as commemorative posters, and a small reception after the screening, including a Herbeast cake, is in the works.
Again, this is a one time only event not to be missed! Although, as many of you know, this was a rushed, low-budgeted production, the end results turned out to be surprisingly well. Here's what Christine Scott, Festival Director of the Strasbourg International Film Festival, had to say in regards to our movie... “We are absolutely thrilled to have Herbeast in our line-up. It’s a really nice fit and very much it’s own type of film… early John Waters mixed with Nora Ephron. I think the audiences here will like it a lot!”
My hope is that the powers at be for the Collaborative help spread the word about our Avon event and do everything they can to ensure a successful night of fun, film, and fuckery!
