RI SCREENWRITER'S SCRIPT SLATED FOR PRODUCTION IN SUMMER OF 2009

STARRING RYAN REYNOLDS

Rhode Island native Chris Sparling's original screenplay, "Buried," is headed for production in Spain this summer, starring actor Ryan Reynolds.

Los Angeles, CA – Daily Variety reports that actor Ryan Reynolds will follow up his romantic comedy "The Proposal" by starring in "Buried," a film written by Rhode Island native Chris Sparling.

The film is being directed by Rodrigo Cortes, and produced by Peter Safran of The Safran Company and Adrian Guerra of Spain-based Versus Entertainment. The film will begin production at the end of this month in Barcelona. The story centers on a civilian contractor who is taken hostage in Iraq and awakens buried in a coffin in the desert.

Sparling, who grew up in North Providence, wrote, produced and co-directed the indie film "An Uzi at the Alamo," which premiered at the Columbus Theater in the summer of 2005 and was later released on HBO.
