Rhode Island Welcomes HACHIKO: A DOG STORY

Major film shoot takes place in the Ocean State based on true Japanese story.

Rhode Island welcomes HACHIKO: A DOG STORY, which is filming entirely in-state. This heart-warming family story is directed by Academy Award nominee Lasse Hallstrom (CIDER HOUSE RULES, CHOCOLAT, THE HOAX) and stars Richard Gere and Joan Allen (BOURNE Trilogy, THE CONTENDER).

At a recent press conference hosted by the RI Film and Television Office, Gere mentioned that he and Lasse had considered locations closer to their home base in New York. But it was the attractiveness of the RI film tax credits that convinced them to shoot their film here.

HACHIKO is based on the true story of a Japanese professor and his adoption of an abandoned dog who becomes his best friend, a relationship that changes both of their lives as they form an unbreakable bond. The production is currently filming in Bristol, Woonsocket, and URI Kingston.

(This is not an RIFC Production!)
