Grant-Funded Filmmaking Class Aug. 24-Sept. 15

Instructor: Alec Asten

When you're looking to fund your filmmaking, don't forget about grants. Many public and non-profit initiatives exist to further a cause or champion a message. In this course, ten students will fulfill an existing grant to create a short film of their own design, from start to finish, with an experienced instructor to guide the way.

Our current mission is fully funded by a grant from the RI Department of Transportation. Each class will create one in a series of short films that aim to decrease drunk driving in 18-35 year old males. For each of several sessions, this grant provides full tuition reimbursement to ten students who complete the course, plus a production budget and a screening at the 2011 SENE Film Festival and a special screening event in September.

Students will also be featured in a co-documentary highlighting the mission-oriented impact of their filmmaking experience, which will be presented alongside the student shorts.

Each student will receive a dvd copy of the finished product and a certificate of completion.

We’re excited to announce the instructor for the next session will be experienced local video producer Alec Asten, founder of SECT.

Schedule:
Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday, August 24th through September 15th. There will also be a shooting weekend on Saturday, September 11th and Sunday, September 12th.

Locations will be in or near Providence, RI. Classes will be from 7pm to 10pm, except for the shoot, which is TBD.

Classes are limited to 10 students and are first-come first-served, so sign up early! This will be the final session covered under this grant.
