RI's Research & Development Theatre 1/6/2009

Happy New Year from Perishable Theatre! We have some cool ways to be entertained for $5 and under! (and a plug for our friends LaVoce)

$5 LIVE BAIT True Stories by Real People January 9 at 10pm!!!

Everyone has a story to tell. Come to LIVE BAIT and tell yours or watch others tell theirs. Inspired by NPR’s This American Life and NYC’s The Moth, we’re looking for your true-life stories based on our monthly theme.

This month’s theme is“At Least I've Got My Health”. If you have a related story, here’s what to do: come to the show and sign up, then tell your story like you’re telling your friends over a couple of drinks. Please note: there is a five minute time limit (we will let you know nicely). All are encouraged, performers and non-performers alike.

Under $5:

Have you been curious about DanceDancePartyParty, but afraid to make the commitment? On Friday January 9 , DJ Buddmobile and DJ Cool Britt want you to be rewarded for your curiousity and join them for a FREE edition of DDPP, voted best dance party by RI Monthly magazine. The coolest dance party around is being visited by Erin Kennedy of Eyewitness News (channels 12 and 64) and we want to use that opportunity to invite you to dance with us! Remember, no booze, no boys, no judgement.

Friday January 9- 5:30pm-7pm at the Dance Studio at Perishable Theatre
95 Empire Street, Downtown Providence

$5:
RAPTors work-in-progress showings. See Resident Artists Tom Hurdle and Rick Massimo at work
Saturday January 17 at 8pm
Sunday January 18 at 3pm
Perishable Theatre

Pay what you can! Suggested donation $5

Tom Hurdle’s piece Mortal Sins is a play being written as a chamber piece for actors, singers and musicians. It uses a ghost story to detail the disintegration of a woman's life. Massimo’s Madame Bovary is a theatrical mash-up and remix of Flaubert's novel, the creation of that novel and the evolution of people's responses to it. Well, $10, but worth it!

LaVoce: Theatre That Speaks
is a theatre company that is committed to giving a voice to works that promote social change by creating dialogue.

Patricia Hawkridge, MFA, Artistic Director

THE MOST MASSIVE WOMAN WINS by Madeleine George tells the stories of four women who are battling society's stock image of physical beauty as they await liposuction
surgery. Both humorous and poignant, MASSIVE asks every woman the question, " how far are you willing to go to achieve the 'ideal' body image?" directed by Julie Rackauskas. Performed by Kira Hawkridge; Kaitlyn Hurley; Mary Beth Luzitano;
Jackie Marchetti.
