The Theatre Expansion will be holding auditions for dancers and actors on MONDAY July 7th and WEDNESDAY July 9th from 6-9pm. Both male and female performers are needed.
General: Selected performers will collaborate and perform in a new work that will be presented as the second half of The Theatre Expansion's annual festival Dancestravaganza at Perishable Theatre in Downtown Providence. Show dates are September 5-6 and 12-13 2008. Rehearsals will begin the week of July 14th. They will generally be between the hours of 6pm and 9pm, 2-3 times a week. Exact days will be dependent on availability but will be on either Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Sundays. All performers will be paid for each performance with the additional possibility of being compensated for rehearsal times at the end of their contracted period. Performers' contracts will begin at the first rehearsal and will end after the last pefrormance. Where: Auditions will take place at one of The Theatre Expansion's rehearsal spaces in Providence, RI. Those auditioning will be notified of the location, as it is still being scheduled.
What to expect at auditions: Auditions will consist of a short modern dance warm-up class followed by individual performance samples. Those auditioning should come with one of the following prepared: A short contemporary monologue; OR a short solo dance/movement performance. Samples can be presented improvisationally or fully rehearsed, but must have a clear structure and a strong intention. Auditioning parties should also bring an up to date resume.
Selected Performers: Selected performers will demonstrate the following qualities.
*Extensive training and experience in some kind of live theatre or dance. Dancers with modern training are preferable but both western and non-western dance styles are welcomed.
* A good humored professional outlook toward the project.
*An enthusiastic and creative attitude towards collaboration.
*The willingness to both speak lines and perform choreography on stage.
*The ability to rehearse in the evening.
*Availability for all performances and tech rehearsals the week before.
