Get a Free Ticket to Disney's "Underdog"

This comes to us from the RIIFF:

We wanted to share this news with you since the film was shot in Rhode Island. This was reported in the Providence Journal this morning (7.27.07):

"Underdog," the Disney production that was filmed in Providence last summer, will have a special free screening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The live-action film, based on the long-running Saturday morning cartoon series which first went on the air in 1964, opens nationwide the next day.

City streets, Providence City Hall and the State House were among the many locations used for the film, which stars James Belushi. Interiors were filmed on sets built at the Cranston Street Armory, including a mockup of the State House dome. The State House rotunda was also used for a key scene in the movie.

Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, which brought the filmmakers to the capital city, said 1,000 tickets have been given to officials at Providence City Hall for distribution. The City of Providence and the Film Office are co- sponsoring the event. Feinberg said the State Police will also receive tickets for distribution to Boys and Girls Clubs in the state and that some key State House officials will also get tickets as a way of thanking them for putting up with the disruptions caused by filming in the building. Tickets also will be made available to local members of the film's cast and crew, which number about 300, plus their families.

TIME IS LIMITED SO ORDER YOUR FREE TICKETS TODAY Any remaining tickets are free to the public and may be reserved by calling the Film & TV Office Hotline at 222-6666. Callers will be asked to send an e-mail request for up to four tickets to the office by midnight Sunday. Tickets will be mailed Monday. Requests will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please visit the RI Film & TV Office Website.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival 2007 kicks off Aug. 7 and runs for six days screening nearly 300 films in venues across the state. RIIFF is dedicated to the creation of opportunities for artistic interaction and exchange among independent filmmakers, screenwriters, directors, producers, distributors, backers, and the film-going community. Now heading into its eleventh year, the Festival is produced by the Flickers Arts Collaborative, an organization with 25 years of experience presenting major artistic events as well as independent and foreign films to the public.
