Actors lab meets in new location-starts tonight!

The RIFC Actors Lab will resume meeting at 7pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the new space of the RIFC at the Pawtucket Visitors Center at 175 Main Street, Pawtucket. Our new location has access to a movie theater where we can watch our work on the big screen.

Come on down and have fun and help us develop the new program for 2012. All are welcome!

RIFC Black & White Holiday fundraiser this Saturday, December 3rd! All welcome!

The Rhode Island Film Collaborative's Annual RIFC Holiday Black and White Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, December 3rd at 7 pm at the Pawtucket Visitors Center -175 Main Street, Pawtucket RI. The Fundraiser asks participants to wear black or white, and this year's theme will be classic Black & White horror films.

The evening will be full of surprises, including raffles, ongoing footage from classic black & white horror films, games, music is generously provided by DJ Rick from WRIK, dancing, and cameo appearances from local personalities such as The Barbarian Brothers, Rory Raven and Jack Gauthier.

The event starts at 7pm and is open to all. Tickets are only $20 which includes 1 drink ticket. There will be food provided by Leo's Ristorante of Bristol and a cash bar, as well more raffles and entertainment. People can get tickets in advance through the RIFC website (www.rifcfilms.com).

The Rhode Island Film Collaborative is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 2004 with the mission of helping independent filmmakers make independent films. Proceeds from this event help to coordinates the various events of filmmaking throughout the year: such as the networking events and focused training groups, runs an in-depth video production educational program, and coordinates film events like the annual Providence 48 Hour Film Project. In the past, the group also sponsored an exhaustive study by Dr. Edward Mazze on the economic impact of the film industry and the film tax credit on Rhode Island businesses.

RIFC Annual Black & White fundraising party-Come to the best party of the year!

The Rhode Island Film Collaborative's Annual RIFC Holiday Black and White Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, December 3rd at 7 pm at the Pawtucket Visitors Center -175 Main Street, Pawtucket RI. The Fundraiser asks participants to wear black or white, and this year's theme will be classic Black & White horror films.

The evening will be full of surprises, include door prizes, raffle prizes, ongoing footage from classic black & white horror films, games, a great DJ, dancing, and cameo appearances from local film personalities.

The event starts at 7pm and is open to all. Tickets are $20 which includes 1 drink ticket. There will be food and a cash bar, as well more raffles and entertainment. People can get tickets in advance through the RIFC website (www.rifcfilms.com).

Crew needed

RIFC member Margo Guernesy is producing a documentary film. The film will be a multi-year project following Carmen Castillo, room attendant at the Westin Hotel, who just won the Democratic Primary for Ward 9 of the Providence City Council. She is expected to win the general election on Nov. 29th. The goal is to document her journey and transition from making beds to making laws.

She is actively fundraising, but does not have any money as of yet. She needs a videographer who is willing to donate time and equipment to capture a few key moments that she doesn't want to lose: Election Night (Nov. 29th), Oath of Office (TBD), a few interviews that she wants to get done to capture the energy and outlook of key participants from the beginning.

Also a soundperson will be needed.

Haven Bros. movie needs PA's

Jeff Toste of the Ramp Media Lab is making a documentary about Haven Brothers Diner of Providence, RI. "Haven Bros." is the oldest operating American diner on wheels--selling late night diner food for over 100 years.

They are looking for two more Production Assistants. This is an entry level position, and you may be asked to do any number of odd tasks. Availability to work late night on occasion is helpful but not essential. Most important is reliability and professionalism. These positions are budgeted for stipends, and would be able to start immediately.

Down the road, they will also be looking for some SFX / titling assistance.

The film will be a feature length documentary shown in festivals, area theaters, PBS, and ultimately DVD.

AD, research and creative needed

Paul Roselli of VideoZ is looking for an AD, a research assistant and a creative staff to handle set design, props and wardrobe for "These Three Words," a documentary on recent advances in brain cancer research. The documentary will begin pre-production in January, and is being shot with support from national health organizations. The positions are part-time, and are budgeted for stipend compensation.

position of Assistant Professor in its highly regarded Graduate Department of Digital + Media. The successful candidate will be an artist/designer working with emergent technologies and engaged in understanding their relationship to other media, disciplines and debates within contemporary theory and reflexive practice. Casting RIFC production- "The Chair"

"The Chair," the new Rhode Island Film Collaborative production, is looking for its cast! We have an award winning, absurdist script and will likely be shooting in the Providence area during the second half of November. Positions are unpaid but it looks to be a fun project and a great experience for all. "The Chair" is currently looking to fill the following roles:

Cole: a man between 40-60, a disheveled looking professor type

Vanessa: woman between 40-60, a woman in complete control of her (and her husband's) life

The characters are married, and actors should feel comfortable with rapid, comedic dialogue.

Auditions will be held on Saturday the 5th from 2pm to 6pm at the RIFC HQ at 172 Exchange St, Pawtucket RI (right next to the Gamm Theatre - there will be signs directing you to the correct door).

Feel free to perform whatever material that you have prepared which highlights your abilities. (Again, it's a dialogue-driven, absurdist comedy piece, so you may wish to take that into consideration when choosing your material)

Be sure to bring any headshots, resumes or other pertinent materials. Both union and non-union actors are encouraged to attend.

"Exhumed" premire

(Providence, RI) - Scorpio Film Releasing, New England's premier genre filmmakers are proud and excited to announce the world premiere of their newest, darkest, most beautifully unsettling feature to date; "Exhumed". It will premiere on Friday November 11, 2011.

Different from the acclaimed genre fare Scorpio Film Releasing is known for, Exhumed is a terrifying fairytale centered in the repulsive recesses of humanity. Loneliness, solitude, fear and longing lead an unlikely group of housemates to the darkest edges of life and death.

Director Richard Griffin (Nun of That, The Disco Exorcist) says, "Exhumed marks a refreshing alternative to the endless (and needless) sequels, remakes and reboots Hollywood has to offer. I am extremely proud of the quality and originality of the screenplay by Guy Benoit, and the performances are top-notch. Unlike most horror films, you really care for the characters and their plight. I believe audiences will be thrilled at what we've accomplished."

Producer Ted Marr thinks "Exhumed really moves in a different direction for us as a production company. It still delivers as a suspense or horror film, but it is much more in the vein of a psychological horror film like the original Cat People, rather than today's more graphic shockers."

Exhumed stars Sarah Nicklin, Michael Reed, Michael Thurber, Evalena Marie, Rich Tretheway, Jonathan Thomson, and genre legend Debbie Rochon. The film is directed by Richard Griffin, produced by Ted Marr and Kristin Kayala, written by Guy Benoit and photographed by Ken Willinger.

Exhumed will have its world premiere on Friday November 11th, with showings at 7pm and 9pm at the Orpheum Theater, 1 School St., Foxboro MA. Tickets cost $9.50 at the door.

Casting for RISD & Brown film

Calling all Cougars!

In a film collaboration piece between Brown University and RISD students we are looking for women ranging from their 30's to 60's to play a professor who comedically mistakes a student's poem as a love confession to her, readily and embarrassingly accepting the offer.

Filming will take place Sunday November 13th from 10am to 1pm.

Casting for dancers and extras

A local songwriter is filming a music video and needs people to appear in a bar scene dancing in the music video. This will include a live band performance of two versions of an original song that is rock 'n roll oriented. You will be part of the dance crowd dancing to the songs. There will be two versions of the song: one is a sports related version intended to be played at the beginning of sporting events. The second uses the same music with dance lyrics. In addition to extras, we are looking for three pairs of dancers to be featured dancing to the song. It does not have to be choreographed, but we need good dancers who can offer moves that reflect the song itself.

If you live within easy reach of Woonsocket, Rhode Island and have availability on Sunday November 13th from 1 to 5 pm, please consider this opportunity. Each extra will need to sign a full release form. Although there is no payment for participation, you will be fed. Dancers/extras may also link to the finished music video when it's finished. This is a non-union shoot.

RIFC member Karen Iacobo is looking to see if anyone at RIFC has 19th Century costumes for men and women that she can borrow, or perhaps rent at a low rate?
They are close to shooting 'House of Shadows' and are in need of attire for the 19th Century portion of the film.

Providence Acting Class Open House November 7th

C.O.R.E. A.C.T.I.N.G. Acting Class will host a FREE OPEN HOUSE meet and greet on Monday, November 7th, from 4pm until 9pm at the Brooklyn Coffee and Tea House, 209 Douglas Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island. Potential new students are encouraged to please stop by at any time during the open house to meet the class leader Mike Messier as well as two student mentors. The class is designed for students of all experience levels, with special consideration to those new to acting. Appropriate for ages sixteen and older.

The 48 Hour Film Project is going to over 100 cities spanning all six

Body of Proof not to return to RI

ABC announced that the show was renewed for a second season a few days ago, but on Friday actress Jeri Ryan Tweeted that it would be shot in LA. Steven Feinberg, executive director of the RI Film and Television Office, confirmed this news today.

The first season, comprised of nine episodes, finishes tomorrow night. It was filmed entirely in Rhode Island, with the sound stage and production offices in Warwick and other scenes shot at various locations around Providence, including the iconic GTECH building.

The filming of the show was financially advantageous to the state, as in addition to the money made from the filming rights, it created hundreds of new jobs and extra roles for Rhode Islanders.

Lead actress Dana Delaney and others involved in the show seemed to enjoy working in RI, but clearly other factors have played into the decision to move the show to California. Most of the actors live primarily in California, and reportedly "family obligations" of the show's executive producer Matthew Gross influenced the move as well.

The Autism Project seeks videographer

The Autism Project is seeking a filmmaker/videographer who would be willing to donate their time and talent to record the fashion show and have copies available for any of the models or designers who may want one. They can pay a small fee to cover the cost of the CD/DVD and postage.

The event starts at 6 pm. The fashion show segment starts after dinner around 7:30-7:45 and runs about 45 minutes. They aim to have the event complete no later than 9 pm.

There is also an after-party on Federal Hill which many attend. As long as s/he is over the age of 21, the volunteer is more than welcome to join, network, pass out cards, etc. Credit will aslo be given in the program book.

A request that the person behave and dress professionally (no tshirts/jeans/sneakers/baseball caps), be punctual, and prompt with communications... A beginner or film student is fine or need for community service hours.

Today is the day! The Providence 48 Hour Film Project is officially open for registration! This is looking to be our biggest year yet!

The 48 Hour Film Project is going to over 100 cities spanning all six

continents this year. Which one of you will make the best short film torepresent Providence against teams from around the world vying for the title of "The Best 48 Hour Film of 2011"?

Body of Proof not to return to RI

The filming of the show was financially advantageous to the state, as in addition to the money made from the filming rights, it created hundreds of new jobs and extra roles for Rhode Islanders.

The Autism Project seeks videographer

The event starts at 6 pm. The fashion show segment starts after dinner around 7:30-7:45 and runs about 45 minutes. They aim to have the event complete no later than 9 pm.

This is it! On Friday, representatives from all registered teams will

converge on this spot, draw film genres from a hat & learn the common elements -- character, prop & line -- they must use in their film.

Then, they're off, trying to make the best 4-7min film in 48hrs! Doors will open at 6 PM & the clock starts at 7; they have until 7:30 Sunday to come back to this spot with a finished product. An RIFC rep will be on hand until 9 PM, to collect late entries. 1 - 2 representatives only per team.

Filmmakers are invited to continue working on their 48HFP submissions: if you had to cut a scene, to fit it in the 7min. time limit, you can put it back in; if you didn't have time to make certain color corrections, make them now; if the sound doesn't quite sync up, fix it!

Do whatever you want (except make it feature length; that'll require its own special screening - & have the finished product at the RIFC office -- Pawtucket Armory Center for the Arts, Suite 304 -- by 10 PM on Friday, Sept. 23, 48 days after the Best ofPVD48HFP 2011 screening, & we'll screen it on Sunday at The Spot Underground! There will be no judging or awards, but Q&A with the filmmakers will happen after the screening.

Food & drink will be available for purchase.

Documentary Filmmaker imprisoned in Iran

To: His Excellency Ayatollah Sadeqh Larijani (Office of the Head of the Judiciary) ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

We wish to express our deep concern for Arzhang Davoodi, an author, poet, and former Director of the Parto-e-Hekmat Cultural Educational Centre in Teheran. Mr. Davoodi was arrested without a warrant on November 9, 2003, for his involvement in the production of a TV documentary called "Forbidden Iran" in which he spoke out about human rights violations in Iran. After a trial behind closed doors that lasted less than an hour, and without the presence of a lawyer, he was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment. He is now being held at Reja'I Shah prison, where he has been tortured and beaten. As a result of beatings, he has a broken shoulder blade, broken jaw, and broken teeth. He has been denied medical attention, as well as family visits. Earlier this year, Mr. Davoodi's treatment was reported by the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment and delivered by the Human Rights Council to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

As Rhode Island film makers, we are especially concerned about Mr. Davoodi being subjected to seven years of harsh, brutal treatment simply for making a film. Amnesty International considers Arzhang Davoodi a prisoner of conscience, imprisoned solely for peacefully expressing his beliefs. I urge you to use your authority to grant him immediate and unconditional release, as well as to see that he receives needed medical treatment.

This course is the sequel to Auditioning for the Camera with Carolyn Pickman.
If you're interested in expanding on the skills you learned in earlier courses, you'll enjoy this advanced approach to knocking auditions and performances out of the park.

You'll use actual audition material from television commercials, corporate videos, film scripts and tv shows. Your mock auditions will be videotaped at each class, and reviewed with feedback and coaching. You'll learn to prepare, and to adjust your performances for the camera, take direction. You'll also learn tricks of the trade, including protocol, what to expect on a set, how a shooting day goes. There will also be a discussion of union and non-union work, the pros and cons of each, and strategies for building an acting career. The end result will help you, both in auditioning successfully and in effectively conveying character & presence through the lens of the camera.

Take your skills to the next level. Work will include mock auditions for guest directors as well. Students for the Level two class must have taken the intro to Auditioning for the Camera or an equivalent class or real world experience.

"Fixing America"

The 989 Project is proud to announce, in collaboration with Stephen P. Laffey and Stephen T. Skoly, the filming of the feature length documentary Fixing America. Currently in production, Fixing America will raise relevant questions about the state of our country and attempt to get to the core of the issues by speaking with Americans from across the United States. Discussing not only the problems we are facing, but also the possible solutions that can lead us to a better future, the film will represent opinions ranging from everyday Americans to experts on policy.

Currently on the road, crew members, including director Anthony Ambrosino (Sleather) and director of photography Jeff Hoffman (The Corporation), are making sure to keep everyone up to date on their progress. Daily videos can be found at www.fixingamericamovie.com, and help showcase the true vision behind this documentary. After making their way across the United States, the crew will return back to Rhode Island where post production will commence at The 989 Project's studio with the editor Fred Tindall.

Save the Bay needs a person to help shoot their Bay Partners Graduation on Monday May 9 from 9am - 1 pm.

There will be a large group of Providence students who are completing a multi-year set of programs. There will be lots of activities and some speeches that will need to be documented.

For the past 15 years, Bob was the opening warm-up comic on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. Previous to that, Bob wrote, and/or warmed up on such hits as "Friends", "Two and A Half Men", "Laverne and Shirley", "Mork and Mindy", "Coach", "Will and Grace" and many more shows.

The next meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, May 5 th at 7:00 p.m. at the RIFC headquarters in the Pawtucket Armory. David Goldenberg has asked to discuss the future of the group. Dave (sorry I've forgotten the last name) would like to discuss some moral issues surrounding his project. And David Eliet some editing questions. So it is the evening of the 3 Daves. If anyone has something they would like to show, please let David E. know and bring it along.

Description This course addresses the question, "How do I give an exceptional audition?"

Get the call back, book the job - or just learn to work the camera like a pro. Practice and insightful coaching are the keys to improving your ability to work with the camera, and your comfort with it.

Carolyn Pickman brings actual audition material from television commercials, corporate videos, and film scripts. Participants will be videotaped in a mock audition setting at each class. Students will review the videos and learn to prepare, and adjust their performances for the camera, take direction, and learn tricks of the trade - both in auditioning successfully, and in effectively conveying character and presence through the lens of the camera.

Carolyn walks you through auditioning step-by-step, pointing out the pitfalls to avoid and giving an insider's view on what industry pros look for. Students are welcome to repeat this course - different material is always added.

Editing Intern needed

Request from the 989 Project:

We are looking for an editing intern who will work with our editor on a feature length documentary that is currently in production. We need someone to help with transcoding footage, syncing audio to video, cataloging media, etc. This is a great experience for someone looking to gain more experience with film editing. This position is for film credit only and future professional considerations. We need someone with full time availability, Mon-Fri, starting ASAP through May 20. Documentary Screenwriter/Concept Development needed

PL-AIDS (Partners in Learning about AIDS) is a media-based nonprofit focused on developing advocacy projects for HIV prevention. Right now, the organization is working on a one-hour advocacy-related documentary about healthcare access to post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV. At this point, we are looking for:

Documentary Screenwriter/Concept Development: This person would be responsible for reworking the existing script under development by the main writer and would become a co-writer of the script. Only individuals with experience in screen writing and concept development should respond. We are looking for people with a very creative vision and have experience with documentaries.The specific project would involve the writing of a few short scenes that could be integrated into a larger, preexisting storyline.

This year, GiveMe5 will be held at Bishop Hendricken High School's theatre, 2615 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. The pizza dinner celebration, group award and photo shoot of all participants will be held immediately following.
